Day centres and lunch clubs in Ware, Hertford, Hoddesdon and Broxbourne
Two very different services share the name "day centre". Hertfordshire County Council day services are assessed places: Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm, wheelchair accessible, and every one requires an adult social care needs assessment before someone can start attending. They include Ware Road day service in Hertford (SG13 7TG, 01920 461671), Broxbourne day service at King Arthur Court, Cheshunt (EN8 8EH, 01920 461671) for older people, and East Herts day service with sites in Cheshunt, Hoddesdon and Ware (01992 904410) for adults with learning disabilities. None of them are drop-in.
The second kind needs nothing but turning up. Age UK Hertfordshire's Young at Heart clubs run across the Broxbourne and East Hertfordshire districts with tea, activities and a two course lunch, at £13 a day or £19.50 with transport. Smaller local groups listed by East Herts District Council include Local Social coffee mornings in Ware (free, Monday to Friday), Companionship Cafes at the New Apton Centre in Hertford (Friday 10:30am to 12:00pm), a free Knitting and Crochet Group at the Nigel Copping Community Building in Hertford (Friday 10:00am to 12:00pm), and Fella's Fitness and Ladies Keep Fit at Pioneer Hall, Hertford (£6 a session). No referral or assessment is needed for any of these.
The real gap is the older person who will not go to either one alone. AirCarers Companion is help before care. Companions are not carers and do not provide personal care, medication or anything clinical, but they can go along the first time or provide a regular lift so a club becomes a fixture. We work across Ware, Hertford, Hoddesdon, Broxbourne and the SG11 to SG14 and EN10 to EN11 postcodes. Visits start at one hour, from £25 an hour. Call 07455 750006.
